Death At A Funeral

Tracy Morgan and Martin Lawrence are joining Chris Rock in Screen Gems and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment's remake of "Death at a Funeral." Also joining the cast are Loretta Devine, Ron Glass, Danny Glover, Regina Hall, James Marsden, Zoe Saldana and Columbus Short. Neil LaBute is directing the ensemble comedy in which a funeral ceremony turns into a debacle of misplaced cadavers and family secrets. When things can't get any worse, a man arrives saying he's the dead man's gay lover and threatens blackmail.

Chris Rock Signs Book Deal

Chris Rock has signed a new book deal with Grand Central Publishing. Grand Central Publishing says Rock's new book, not yet titled, will be full of "comedic observations." It's tentatively scheduled for release next year. Chris' last book "Rock This!" was published in 1997.

Chris Rock Reunites With Adam Sandler

Chris Rock has joined the cast of a new untitled Adam Sandler movie. The film will star Rock, Sandler, Kevin James, Rob Schneider and David Spade. The high-concept comedy was written by Sandler and longtime collaborator Fred Wolf ("Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star") and centers on five best friends from high school who reunite 30 years later on a Fourth of July weekend. Production on the untitled Sandler comedy is expected to begin this summer in time for a 2010 release.

The DVD was cut together from shows shot in three cities, London, New York and Johannesburg.

This morning, at 8:30am, as everyone was buzzing about the Oscar nominations, I went to see Chris Rock"™s hilarious documentary Good Hair. "Utah has been very good to me," Rock tells me. "At first Sundance scared me because it"™s so white and this movie is about black girls"™ hair. I thought originally Cannes would be a better venue because the film also has a gay esthetic, but it"™s been amazing here, just amazing." Indeed Rock has had a very good Sundance.

"Good Hair" Debuts at Sundance

Judging from the audience reaction at the press screening of Chris Rock's "Good Hair," HBO should look to air the documentary, a commentary by Rock (interviewed on video earlier) on the industry and mindset of African-American hair, as soon as possible. Snickers, guffaws, gasps, nods of agreement, winces and cheers arose from the industry crowd as Rock, with a cavalcade of stars including Nia Long, Ice-T, the Rev. Al Sharpton, video vixen Melyssa Ford and Dr. Maya Angelou, commented on personal and societal rules when dealing with black hair. Especially that of a black woman.
