Chris Rock brings W. Kamau Bell to FX

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- FX's "Brand X with Russell Brand" takes a break until October and FX will try out "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell" Thursday at 11 p.m. It will offer Bell's take on current events and culture.

The show is executive produced by Chris Rock -- Bell says he's advised by "Foul Mouth Yoda" -- and will begin with Mr. Bell offering a monologue, similar to his one-man show, then there will be remote reports and a guest.

"I love the fact that that title says explicitly up front there's things that you are just going to get here, and if you don't like them, that's just how it's going to be," he said. "You know, ironically, the biggest pushback I've gotten so far on the Internet is because I said, 'There's no black Spider‑Man.' So you never know exactly what people are going to get upset about.

Bell is no fan of TV news.

"The problem with TV news is where the title from the show comes from," he said. "TV news is also totally biased. It just doesn't admit it. So I would just like to take that thing away of ‑‑ journalism is not what it used to be, and so I would just like to take that film away and let everybody say, 'I am talking from the perspective of the right. I'm talking from the perspective of the left.' I think that's legitimate. We all can find our own news sources. I think blogs on the Internet have sort of democratized that whole thing. So I just feel, like, take the filter away of saying you are fair and balanced, and just say, 'No. We have a stake in this, and we want it to be mostly rich, white guys.'"

Rock has his own take on TV news.

"The news is what it is, man," Rock said. "The news is a TV show. They need ratings. And in our lifetime, we will see boobs in the news. We will see it all."
